# Getting started

> Your first take in Facecast: write a script, set up the studio, record, keep the take and copy its chapters. About fifteen minutes.

This walk-through takes about fifteen minutes. You will write a short script, record one take and keep it.

## Before you begin

Facecast is invite-only in early access. You need an account, which you get by [requesting access](/request-access/) and signing in once your place is ready. If you use Geenius OS you can sign in with that account. Use a current Chrome or Edge on a computer for everything, or any modern browser if you only need the camera and the teleprompter. See [requirements](/docs/requirements/).

## 1. Write a script

Open **Scripts** and make a new one. Type a `# topic` line for each part, a few `- points` under it and, if you want, the sentences you will say. [Write a script](/docs/scripts/) has the format. You can also ask your AI to write one through [Geenius OS](/docs/use-with-your-ai/).

## 2. Open the studio

Open the script and choose **Record**. The studio shows a live preview: what you see is what is recorded. Your browser asks for the camera and microphone. Allow them.

## 3. Choose a layout and a background

Press `1` for the camera alone, `2` for your face in a bubble over content, `3` for side by side and `4` for content only. Open the **Background** group to blur or replace the room. See [layouts](/docs/layouts/) and [background](/docs/background/).

## 4. Record

Press **Record**. A countdown runs, and the teleprompter shows your text over the video. It is never recorded. Read at your pace. Press `S` for a screenshot of a moment you want to find again.

## 5. Stop and keep

Press **Stop**. You can watch the take, rename it, download it, and keep it in Facecast. Nothing is uploaded before you keep it. Keep the take, then copy the chapters into a video description. See [kept recordings](/docs/kept-recordings/).

## Next

Save the setup as a [Look](/docs/looks/), and read about the [plans and limits](/docs/plans-and-limits/).
