How a Facecast take is recorded in the browser: MP4 or WebM, crash recovery in the browser's private storage, countdown, pause, and what is uploaded.

Recording happens in your browser, from a canvas that is the preview itself.

The file#

MP4 where your browser can record it, WebM where it cannot. Chunks are streamed into the browser's private file system, so a long take does not sit in memory. A take cut short by a crash is offered back the next time you visit.

During the take#

A countdown, then record. You can pause, retake and mute. The layout, the content and the ink are all part of the take. The teleprompter is not.

After you stop#

Watch it, rename it, download it, or keep it. Nothing is uploaded before you keep it. See kept recordings.

Audio#

The microphone is mixed with tab sound where you share a tab.
