Requirements
What Facecast needs: a current browser, a camera and microphone, and which features need Chrome or Edge. What is different on a phone.
Facecast runs in your browser. Nothing is installed.
The basics#
- A camera and a microphone, and your permission to use them.
- A current browser. The recording is made with the browser's own recorder, so the file format depends on it.
What depends on the browser#
| Feature | What it needs |
|---|---|
| Recording as MP4 | A browser that can record MP4. Others record WebM. |
| Pop-out control bar | Document Picture-in-Picture: Chrome or Edge. |
| A website on stage | Chrome or Edge. Sites that refuse to be framed are shared from a tab instead. |
| Sharing a screen, window or tab | A computer browser. The picker comes from the browser. |
| Background removal | A browser that can run the model. The models are downloaded the first time. |
On a phone#
The camera layouts and the teleprompter work. Screen sharing does not exist in phone browsers, so content that needs a screen is limited there.
What loads from outside#
The background models are loaded from third parties the first time you use one: jsDelivr, Google model storage and Hugging Face. See background.
